The name’s Bond, James Bond, and one of his biggest fans is 21-year-old Matthew from Kent. An active young man, Matthew was working full time and living an independent life, but daily life turned upside-down when he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia. Suddenly Matthew was in hospital, having chemotherapy and recovering from the side effects of treatment. This isolated him from his family, friends and work colleagues, and he was also due to begin a management course which had to be put on hold.
Matthew’s treatment coincided with the filming of another Bond film, and he dreamed of the day it was finally released into the cinemas. Matthew’s dream became a reality when, not only did he get to see ‘Spectre’, but was given a red carpet ticket to the film’s premier at the Royal Albert Hall!
Bond-obsessed, Matthew owns all of the films and he is always first in line when a new one comes out, so attending the premiere was a real dream come true! Matthew wished to share his dream experience with his mum Hazel, as a thank you for being such a source of support throughout his treatment. With help from Sony Entertainment, the two were soon making their grand entrance onto the red carpet!
Staying in a hotel just 500 yards from the Royal Albert Hall, Matthew got suited up like 007 himself, ready to mingle with Daniel Craig (James Bond), Naomie Harris (Miss Moneypenny) and many other stars of the film. In fact, so many celebrities were attending the premier it was hard to spot them all! Although Matthew did meet singer Sam Smith, performer of the film’s theme song, in a rather unconventional way – he almost walked straight into him on the way to his seat! Without a doubt Matthew definitely enjoyed the film and said it all passed by in a bit of a blur… but a very good one!
“This was truly a memorable experience, never to be forgotten. Words can't describe just how amazing it was to be walking up the red carpet with all the Stars. The Royal Albert Hall was just breath-taking, and the amount of people we were sat with - too many faces to take in. We even saw the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.
Matthew and I cannot thank Dreams enough and would be very grateful if you could pass on our thanks to everyone who made Matthew's dream come true.
Thank you once again.”
Matthew's mother, Hazel
