Sophia is a bubbly 4-year old and has cerebral palsy, like most little girls she loves dressing up and absolutely adores Disney characters - especially the princesses. She drew us a lovely picture of a princess and asked if she could meet the Disney characters in real life and visit their magical castle.
Two years ago, Sophia was assessed for Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) surgery and was found to be suitable, but there is a long waiting list and Sophia’s parents were keen for her to have the operation as soon as possible. SDR is a neurosurgical procedure which reduces tight muscle tone and aims to improve mobility. Sophia’s parents managed to raise a staggering £65,000 and travelled to America for the operation. To their huge relief, the ground-breaking surgery was a success and Sophia can now walk in her splints, stand and take a few steps by herself.
The holiday to Disneyland Paris gave the family the prefect opportunity to relax and watch Sophia having fun and just being a little girl again. She loved the rides and was really star-struck when she hugged her favourite Disney characters and the photos of her smiling from ear-to-ear say it all.
“We truly cannot thank you enough for giving our daughter such an amazing dream. Watching Sophia see and meet her idols was totally magical. We all have such wonderful memories that we shall never forget. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.”
Tara, Sophia’s mum
