14-year-old tennis enthusiast Patrick has had a tough time dealing with his intensive treatment for leukemia and a trip to Wimbledon was just the distraction he needed.
‘I would like to go to Wimbledon because I really enjoy playing tennis and I always watch it on TV so it would be great to go in person’.
Patrick had been talking about his Wimbledon dream for months, so when they day finally arrived it was difficult to contain his excitement. Patrick and his mum arrived at Wimbledon on the second day spending a while wandering around soaking up the atmosphere and sunshine, before deciding which matches to see.
They enjoyed their first match with the French No 10 Richard Gasquet playing Alijaz Bedene the British No 2. The Frenchman won in straight sets, it was then time for lunch.
For the afternoon things stepped up a pace with the pair taking their seats at the world famous centre court. Patrick was in awe! They watched Serena Williams win before getting ready for the match they had been waiting all day for: Andy Murray versus Liam Brody.
For Patrick’s final match of the day, he simply had to live the Wimbledon dream and enjoy it with some strawberries and cream. As the day drew to a close, Patrick bought himself a Wimbledon cap so that he’d always have something to remember his dream day at the championships.
“Thank you for organising my wonderful trip to Wimbledon. I really enjoyed myself there and am extremely thankful for being given the amazing opportunity to go. I had a marvellous experience and I would like to sincerely thank everybody that helped make it happen.” Patrick
