Seven-year-old Ben has quadriplegic cerebral palsy which means he relies on a wheelchair and needs regular intensive physiotherapy. Ben recently spent five weeks in the U.S. having a major operation to help his movement. Afterwards, his Mum wrote us to ask if we could fulfill Ben’s dream to go on holiday with the family he’d been separated from for so long.
One day, Ben and his sisters couldn’t understand why their parents were being so secretive and had packed their car full with stuff.... When they arrived at Butlins they were amazed!
Thrill-seeker Ben couldn’t wait to get on the rides. Normally, Mikayla finds herself having to repeatedly tell Ben he can’t go on rides and feeling terrible about it. But there was nothing disappointing about Butlins - there were so many rides he could access.
Daddy (Jay) quickly became the hero of the arcades. Ben and his sister soon worked out that watching Daddy was even more fun than playing because they got to choose the prizes!
Ben is Star Wars mad so when he discovered a series of Angry Birds prizes dressed as Star Wars characters, it became clear they’d be spending the whole afternoon winning tickets until he could complete his set!
Ben can be very sensitive to noise so Mikayla braced herself when they visited the circus. To her surprise, Ben loved it and spent the whole time laughing!
Ben also surprised himself when he attended a falconry display and held a bird of prey. Although he felt nervous as he held the bird, he was so excited afterwards and very proud to have done something so brave!
We had an amazing time – thank you so much for making this possible! Ben and the girls loved it and we packed so much in that now me and Jay need a holiday to get over our holiday! Mikayla, Ben’s Mum
