Ryan (8) from Northumberland has Pelizaeus Merzbacher disease; a very rare and progressive genetic disorder affecting his central nervous system, sight, limbs and motor skills.

Young Ryan is a happy-go-lucky little boy, but everyday life can sometimes be challenging. He can’t do many of the things that most eight-year-olds take for granted, such as riding a bike. Ryan loves being outdoors but with limited mobility, he has always relied on others to push him around in his specially adapted pushchair.

Ryan’s dream was simple - he wanted to be like his big sister and join in with family bike rides. For that, Ryan would need a specialist trike which are prohibitively expensive for many families.

Mum, Emma, wrote to us asking if we could help. As she explained: “It would make Ryan so happy to be more independent and do something that many eight-year olds take for granted. The trike would also help Ryan to strengthen his leg muscles and improve his mobility.”

Thanks to your support, we were able to make a little boy’s dream come true. Ryan and the family recently took delivery of a specialist trike made by our wonderful friends at Tomcat. Using the latest innovation, Ryan’s trike has been purpose-built to suit his individual needs and even painted in his favourite colour.

As you can see, he loves it....Watch out big sister, Ryan is going to catch you up!

“Thank you so much for Ryan’s trike, he loves it.” Ryan’s family
