On the 28th June 2017 six dream families set off on the trip of a life time; the very first Disneyland Paris Group Trip! As a charity we have been organising the Disney World Florida group trip for a number of years, it has always been a huge success with many families on the trip becoming life-long friends.
The group trip gives families from all around the UK a chance to go away with the support of a nurse and dream coordinator. Many of these families could not go away without this extra support. The young people's ages ranged from four to 20 and they have a variety of serious and life-limiting conditions. Despite these differences Alexander, Leeroy, Robbie, Samantha, Bradley and Sabah had the same dream, to visit Disneyland Paris! Wendy (Head of Dreams) alongside Michelle (Dreams Co-ordinator) went with the group and arranged all the activities so that everything ran smoothly and all they have to worry about is having the time of their lives!
The Dream Families came from all over the UK which meant some travelled by Eurostar while others flew to Paris. Everyone stayed in the Newport Bay Club, Disney’s nautical themed hotel. After checking in and getting settled the group went to collect their quick access passes which meant no one had to queue to get onto the rides.
On the second day of the trip everyone was up early for breakfast where the anticipation was building for the magical day ahead. They arrived at Disneyland where all the children couldn’t contain their excitement as their dreams were moments away from becoming a reality. The families explored the Disneyland Park in the morning and met again for lunch….but not just any lunch. The group had a wonderful lunch with the Disney characters. They got to meet Daisy Duck, Minnie Mouse and Pluto just to name a few. The afternoon was for the families to explore, meet more characters and go on the rides. The whole group came together in the evening to watch the firework display that takes place at the Disney castle, they were left speechless at the stunning show that illuminated the sky.
Day three was a chance to relax after a busy second day. The families took advantage of both the indoor and outdoor pools at the hotel. Some of the families wanted to go shopping so Wendy and Michelle took them on a short train ride to a local mall.
Day four and the group were back at the park but this time they spent the day at Hollywood Studios. The families got to see some of the behind the scenes tricks from the movies and go on more rides. The trip was rounded off with a farewell dinner and show for everyone at Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show.
On the final day of the trip the families had some free time to go into the parks again before they had to make the journey home. The whole group had a wonderful time. Everyone arrived home arrived home tired, but very happy.
“I Just wanted to thank you for giving Robbie (and us) the most amazing experience ever. Just can't thank dreams come true enough for what you did. Nothing too much trouble and for sorting everything out. I can honestly say that was the best 6 days I’ve ever experienced with Robbie albeit exhausting but who needs sleep! His smiles and laughter and excitement made the week what it was and will never forget his face on those rides, especially thunder mountain. He's a total thrill seeker! Magical and thank you from all 3 of us! Just sorry won't have the pleasure to meet you both again because you're both fantastic and we had a laugh too.” Tania xx
