Head of Dreams
I am Head of Dreams and have been with the charity for sixteen years. It's a fantastic job and I love it. The work is varied and interesting but the best bit is when we get to meet and spend time with the families and the fundraisers. That’s my favourite part of the job. I enjoy meeting people, spending time with them and love to hear their stories. As a parent of two daughters myself, I know how children like to dream and my sole aim is to try and make those dreams come true, no matter how challenging.
Part of my role is to take groups of dream children and their families to Orlando each year to visit the theme parks and generally have a good time. This usually results in me being responsible for 45 people for 12 days, some of whom are in wheelchairs, which can be quite stressful but very rewarding. It's difficult describing yourself so having just recently returned from a group trip I asked some of the families if they could describe me. This is what they said:-
"You're an amazing lady with loads of determination, you rally round even when we are relaxing to make sure everyone is ok. Thank you for your kindness, generosity and warmth. I am in awe of your drive, your endless patience & good humour. You made it so easy for everyone. You are one very special lady and one we will never forget."
When I'm not working I enjoy being out of doors gardening and walking. I also love going to the theatre, eating out and getting together with family and friends.
I'm a keen recycler and inspired by an article I read, every other year I don't buy any new clothes. Instead I enjoy going through my wardrobe and rediscovering the ones I haven't worn for ages. It's amazing what you find and the ones I don't wear I donate to my local charity shop.
