Twelve-year-old Baylee lives with his guardian, Gary, in Nottingham. Baylee’s mother, whom he was very close to, sadly passed away from cancer during the Christmas of 2014. Baylee is affected with a rare chromosome disorder as well as asthma, ADHD and autism. When she was alive, Baylee’s mother promised that she would one day take him to Disneyland, Orlando. Baylee’s Christmas dream is to make this special trip with his guardian Gary, thus fulfilling his mother’s wish.
When Baylee was first diagnosed with his condition after having a stroke at only a few months old, the doctors weren’t sure if he would survive. However, Baylee fought through. He now attends a special needs school near his home and requires daily care by his guardian Gary, who is also his uncle. Unfortunately, Gary damaged his back when he fell down the stairs whilst caring for his late sister. Despite the difficulties they both face on a daily basis, Gary and Baylee remain optimistic.
Baylee’s guardian Gary said, “Baylee tries his best to be a normal child. He doesn’t let anything bother him. He is very giving. His mother truly adored him and it would mean so much to Baylee to be able to fulfil her wish. She had been to Orlando herself and one of her great dreams was to take her son there”.
Richard Ashton, chief executive Dreams Come True said, ““For Baylee and his Uncle Gary, this dream has an extremely special meaning as it will finally make Baylee's late mother’s wish come true. Their story is heartbreaking, their reliance amazing and I couldn't think of a more deserved Christmas dream recipient. We desperately we need your help to fulfil dreams like Baylee’s.”
