Heidi is 21-years-old and lives with her family in Leicestershire. She has Retts Syndrome, a complex genetic and neurological disorder, which leaves her with seizures. She is wheelchair dependent and is fed through a special tube.

In 2015, Heidi was very poorly with the serious condition and spent a lot of time in hospital. However, she never gave up and - against the odds - she was eventually discharged from hospital months after being admitted. It was a difficult time for Heidi and her family but they remain positive, determined to live life to the full and ready to make some special memories together.

Her dream was to have access to different properties and places all over the UK. Heidi’s Mum, Tina, wrote to us on Heidi’s behalf, “To be able to visit National Trust places would be lovely. We like to take Heidi out to experience life to the full.  We don’t take her on holidays as we find this too challenging and the change of routine disturbs her.  To go out for day trips is a great way to give her some quality of life – especially as she nearly lost her life last year.  This was a devastating time and made us realise that every day we have with her should be special as we never know if it will be the last.”

Michelle, our Dream Co-ordinator arranged for National Trust passes to be sent to Heidi so the whole family can enjoy days out together; days that are also accessible for Heidi’s wheelchair. The family were thrilled and have already been making the most of the beautiful places the National Trust has to offer.

“Thank you so much for granting this dream for Heidi.  We have been on two trips this month. We went to Hardwick Hall and  it was beautiful.  Last week we visited Southwell Work House; it was very interesting, if not a little bit eerie! It is so lovely building memories of days out with Heidi. We don't know what her life expectancy is so now we are trying to enjoy every moment. A huge thanks to you all once again.” Tina, Heidi’s Mum.
