When Georgina was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (blood cancer), she was forced to put her ‘normal life’ on hold for two and a half years as she made weekly visits to the hospital for treatment.
For a young women in her late teens, this was difficult to come to terms with. Apart from battling her illness, Georgina felt she missed out on many milestones and experiences, including her 18th birthday celebrations and trips abroad with family and friends.
“I found it very difficult missing these opportunities due to my treatment, and being unable to do the normal things I would have done with my friends and family.” When Georgina finished her treatment, her mum got in touch to ask if we could help Georgina make up for some of those lost experiences by sending her on a dream trip to to New York with her best friend, who had been so supportive throughout. We were delighted to be able to fulfil Georgina’s ‘Big Apple’ dream earlier this year and as you can see, she had a fabulous time!
I just want to say a huge thank you so much for the trip to New York. We enjoyed ourselves so much and it was definitely a trip of a lifetime! We got so much done during our time in New York including the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty and all the other tourist attractions. We had dinner at a really cool restaurant one night called Ella’s stardust diner, where all the waiters and waitresses sung Broadway show songs during the evening. Such a different experience of a restaurant. This will be a trip I remember forever and getting to spend it with my best friend was amazing” Georgina
