We caught up with our Ice Hockey team on 2016

2016 brings the 9th UK Forums Allstars Charity Ice Hockey tournament – the largest event of its kind in the UK and an event where Dreams Come True has been represented since its inception 8 years ago.

2016 brings the 9th UK Forums Allstars Charity Ice Hockey tournament – the largest event of its kind in the UK and an event where Dreams Come True has been represented since its inception 8 years ago. In that 8 years, the event has raised over £200,000 for a number of local and national charities through a great bunch of committed people who have one common love – ice hockey. Last year’s event in Sheffield raised an astonishing £89,000 for the 8 nominated charities of 2015.

My name is Michael Walsh and after representing Dreams Come True for the previous 3 years, I’ve been given the honour of captaining the team for the 2016 tournament in Cardiff. At last year’s tournament, I met Claire and Martin and some other fundraisers and I became extremely keen to be more involved with Dreams. In October 2015, I officially became a volunteer, doing bits remotely alongside my full-time job. I also spent a day in the Dreams offices and it was great to meet the people that put so much time and effort to help enhance the lives of others.

Back to the hockey - 2015 ended in heartbreak on the ice for the Dreams team, losing in a sudden-death penalty shoot-out in the final. We couldn’t have been any closer to the cup without lifting it and we’d love to put that right this year!

More importantly though, the biggest sum that any Dreams team had raised at any of the previous Allstars events was surpassed. With a total of £5,572.54, the bar was raised and this amount contributed to helping 5 very important dreams become reality.

The teams for 2016 were announced on 31st December 2015 and in less than three weeks, the 2016 #DreamTeam has already raised £692 and there’s lots more going on in the background - from team members organising charity fun days to offering advertising space on their hockey kit in exchange for donations. We’re extremely active on social media, our facebook page is www.facebook.com/dreamsicehockey and we’re on Twitter @DreamsOnIce2016 Here you can see everything from player profiles to fundraising updates so please give us a like and a follow!

We’re loving hearing from people who are supporting us at the event so please drop us a message on Facebook or tweet us whether it’s to get involved or just say hello! Don’t forget to use the hashtag #DreamTeam

Thanks for reading and if you’re around the Cardiff area on 30th and 31st July, we’d love to see you at the brand new Ice Arena Wales. We’ve got an extremely enthusiastic bunch who I’m sure are going to absolutely smash last years’ fundraising total and play their socks off on the ice and seeing people support us along the way is a fantastic feeling!
