On 12th June, three friends from across the world reunite for a European trip which will see them cycle 500 miles, unsupported, through France into Italy for children’s charity Dreams Come True, which brings the power of dreams to children with life-limiting conditions by fulfilling their dreams.

Travelling through Europe from Nice to Rome would make many people think of beautiful scenery, dips in the sea, trips to the beach and plenty of good wine and ice cream.

Alex Melia (28), Tim Molton (31) and Paddy Og’Keenan (31) are aiming to complete the challenge in just eight days. En route they will face changing environments and conditions as they make their way across Cote d’Azur, Portofino and Florence before the last leg into Rome.

Speaking about the challenge, Alex said, “We spent a long time researching various routes, and finally settled on Nice to Rome because it presents a great challenge and means we will have to contend with the heat as well as the road conditions. It will be a real physical and mental test. Knowing we are raising money for such a fantastic cause and some very inspirational young people will be more than enough to keep us motivated throughout the ride.”

The friends, who have known each other for seven years but are now spread across the globe in Ireland, Hong Kong and the UK, have never cycled more than 20 miles but wanted to test themselves and help make as much money as possible for the charity.

Paddy said, “None of us have ever done anything like this before but we wanted to do something big for Dreams Come True. They reflect our respective outlooks on life, provide memorable experiences for young people, children and their families. We each feel strongly that life is about those special moments, big or small - they are what you look back on. If we can help the charity to create more memorable moments for children and their families, then our efforts will be worthwhile.”

They will embark on their jounrney in June, show your support here.

Good Luck from Dreams Come True!
