Steve kicks off his year in challenges for Dreams Come True

We caught up with Steve as he completed his first challenge;

I am happy to be raising money for Dreams by getting sponsorship for all the events I am doing this year. I had only planned to do a couple this year as a personal challenge but was also very keen to raise money for a worthy cause so decided to set myself a challenge of doing at least 1 event a month for the rest of the year and keep my just giving page running to raise as much money as possible.

I chose Dreams Come True because knowing that this kind of support is available for parents and children that really need it deserves to be supported. I do not have any children myself but my wife works with children and many of my friends are parents, so such support being available is something many of my sponsors appreciate.

About his first challenge - Vitality North London half marathon

Was a tough course very hilly which all the other runners also mentioned at the end.

Unfortunately I was ill last week and also nursing a calf strain so that just added to the task of completing the run yesterday. I made it to the start line wearing my Dreams Come True running vest with pride with over 4000 other runners taking part, the music playing in the back ground and Mo Farah at the start line getting ready to start the race.

All was going well running through the streets of North London towards Wembley stadium with an added bonus of actually getting to run through the stadium and seeing myself on the big screen. I was running well and at a good pace on course for a personal best time until around 8 miles where I pulled my calf muscle!!

With just over 5 miles ahead of me and pain with every stride how was I going to complete this? I just kept telling myself why I was actually running this race and the good cause this was for and thinking of how many dreams could come true, I soldiered on and ran through the pain and made the finish line.

Next challenges:

19th April Warrior Run 21km obstacle race

9th May Rat Race 20 miles 200 obstacles

17th June Canary Wharf 10km

With more challenges to come, we will keep you up dated on his challenges.
