Adam's Dream to Rome Written by Binny Shah The Best Holiday In 2016 Adam, who is now 23, was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma. Before his cancer diagnosis, he and his dad had visited Italy and fallen in love with the country, culture and cuisine. Through his illness, he promised himself he’d go back one day when he got better to relive the happy memories that had helped him get through such a difficult time. The positive news is that following a year of treatment he has now almost fully recovered and is two years clear and true to his word, in July this year, Adam and his dad got to have their holiday of a lifetime in Italy and they visited Florence, Rome, Venice and Pisa, and we are delighted to have helped that happen. Adam described it as “incredible” and “the best holiday!” Unlike the previous trip, Adam struggled to walk as far or for as long, but they didn’t let this dampen their spirits and stopped off in amazing cafes and restaurants along the way. His highlights of the trip were the picturesque streets in Florence, the chaos of his favourite place, Rome, and the Tuscan steak! Adam said he missed Italy as soon as he got home, but is so grateful for the chance to make more happy memories with his Dad, after coming through the biggest challenge of his life. Adam is now off to study physiotherapy at university, and he hopes to help other people after what he has been through with his own recovery. Thank you message “Rome has always been my favourite place in the world and at one point in my life, when I was ill, I never thought I would get to see it again. It felt right for it to be the first place I went when I got well enough to go. It made me feel like I was back to being a normal person again and made me feel proud of what I had accomplished to be here! As well as that, I'm very thankful to all the people who had made this a possibility for me! Everyone who has helped me has been amazing and I will be eternally grateful.” To make more dreams like Adam’s come true, visit our donations page here.
