Some helpful tips to help others!

As well as making a massive difference in the lives of others, volunteering has some wonderful wide ranging positives for the volunteer, which range from health to career benefits, and can be a truly rewarding experience. We explore five of them.

Make Connections 🤝

Volunteering connects you to others and is a great way to make new friends and meet like minded people. This also has the added benefit of reducing your risk of depression as you will increase your social interaction with others and it will help to build a support system around you as well as help you become an integrated member of the community.

Fun and Fulfilment 😀

It brings fun and a sense of fulfilment from helping others, which is known as “The Happiness Effect.” Volunteering helps to increase the release of dopamine in your brain and so the more you spend your time volunteering, the happier you will be. The same effect as when you finish a session at the gym!

Reduce Stress 😓

Volunteering  can have a calming effect and help reduce your stress levels as through giving back to the community you will feel a sense of meaning and feel appreciated by those that you are aiding, thus having a calming effect on yourself.

Improve Your Skills 🔧

When you volunteer, you learn and improve on valuable skills such as teamwork, communication, problem solving, project planning, task management, public speaking, organisation, marketing, just to name a few, as well as helping to enhance and improve your self confidence, and so help build necessary skills to help advance your career. With lots of global opportunities to volunteer abroad available now, this can help further to gain different perspectives, both literally and figuratively, on life. Through volunteering you will meet plenty of individuals and work with lots of different organisations and this expanding your network and employability.

Different Perspectives 🤔

The exposure to a different perspective by giving a helping hand to others can be cathartic and lead us to evaluate how lucky we are in our own lives in comparison and thus, help with a more positive mindset and outlook on life, which in itself can be life changing.
